Philatelic Issue for the Beginning of the Pontificate of Pope Leo XIV

Two commemorative covers with special cancellation and a limited-edition folder available

On the occasion of the beginning of the Pontificate of Pope Leo XIV, the Postal and Philatelic Service of the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems of the Governorate of the Vatican City State has issued a special philatelic release composed of two commemorative covers, each adorned with thematic stamps and accompanied by a dedicated postal cancellation.

The entire collection is also available in an elegant, limited and numbered edition folder, designed for collectors and enthusiasts of religious philately.

Two covers have been issued, both in 16.5 x 9.5 cm format:

The first vignette depicts Pope Leo XIV during his first General Audience in St. Peter’s Square.

It includes the €1.25 and €3.20 values from the series “Pope Leo PP. XIV – Year I”, issued on 27 May 2025.

The second vignette shows the Holy Father in prayer at the Basilica-Sanctuary “Mother of Good Counsel” in Genazzano.

It includes the €1.30 and €2.45 values from the same philatelic series.

The design of the special postal cancellation depicts the Pontiff greeting the faithful after the Regina Coeli of 11 May.

The circular postmark bears the inscriptions:

“LEO PP. XIV – YEAR I”

“DIE EMISSIONIS 27.05.2025”

“POSTE VATICANE”

A folder has also been published, in vertical format (20 x 27 cm, two panels), containing both covers and offering a carefully crafted and refined presentation of the collection. Printed in a limited and numbered edition, it represents an exclusive collector’s item.

The price of a single commemorative cover is €10.00. The illustrated folder with both covers costs €15.00.

All products are available at the counters of the Postal and Philatelic Service of the Governorate in Vatican City.
