Philatelic Issue for the 75th Anniversary of the Dogma of the Assumption: Two Special Edition Commemorative Envelopes

In 2025, the 75th anniversary of the solemn proclamation of the Dogma of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be celebrated. To honor this significant event, the Postal and Philatelic Service of the Directorate of Telecommunications and Information Systems of the Governorate has created a special commemorative issue that brings together art and faith for the collector.

Featured are two exclusive philatelic envelopes have been produced, each adorned with artworks evoking the mystery of the Assumption. Every envelope bears a €1.30 stamp, part of the series issued on September 7, 2025, specially dedicated to this anniversary.

The first envelope features an illustration inspired by the celebrated fresco The Assumption of the Virgin by Pinturicchio, which adorns the Borgia Apartments in the Vatican Museums. The second depicts the Dormitio Virginis, a 16th-century icon from the Cretan tradition, also conserved in the Vatican Museums.

Both envelopes (measuring 16.5 x 9.5 cm) are enhanced by a special cancellation design, based on a reinterpretation of Pietro Bernini’s bas-relief depicting the Assumption, housed in the Roman Basilica of Saint Mary Major. The circular postmark, 38 mm in diameter, includes commemorative inscriptions and the date of issue: September 7, 2025.

Completing this collector’s edition is an illustrated, numbered folder in a limited edition, containing both envelopes in an elegant two-panel format (20 x 27 cm). The price is €10.00 for the two envelopes, or €15.00 for the complete folder.

These products are available at all points of purchase of the Postal and Philatelic Service in the Vatican.
