The 2026 Philatelic Program has produced an additional issue dedicated to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, which in recent times has experienced moments of great historical and spiritual significance. The issue is intended, in fact, to commemorate the transfer of the seat of the Archeparchy from Lviv to Kyiv and the return to the capital of the Head and Father of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
On August 17, during the celebrations marking these important milestones, the Apostolic Nuncio Visvaldas Kulbokas emphasized that “it is a gift of God that the seat of the Head and Father of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the Metropolia of Kyiv are in the capital, because had this not been the case, he would have lost something important. And the entire Catholic Church, without the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, would have lost much.” The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church is, in fact, the largest among the Eastern Catholic Churches in communion with the Apostolic See.
The stamp (which will also be accompanied by a mini-folder), to be issued on February 26, depicts the new Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv, consecrated in 2013. The selected image shows the outlines of the façade, without illumination as a result of the ongoing war: the diffuse brightness of the sky in the background suggests an invitation to look with hope beyond the dramatic nature of the present moment.
