New Philatelic Issues of the Vatican Post – 7 September 2025

The Postal and Philatelic Service of the Directorate for Telecommunications and Information Systems of the Governorate of Vatican City State announces a new series of philatelic issues to be released on 7 September 2025, in conjunction with significant religious and cultural events and anniversaries. These issues are distinguished by their high symbolic, historical, and spiritual value, as well as by the artistic and collectible quality characteristic of Vatican productions.

Canonization of Carlo Acutis

Joint issue with Italy, the Republic of San Marino, and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. On the occasion of the canonization of Carlo Acutis by Pope Leo XIV, the Vatican Post will issue a commemorative stamp and a special postmark. Carlo Acutis, beatified on 10 October 2020 by Pope Francis, is an extraordinary example of youthful holiness in today’s world. Born in London in 1991 and passing away in Monza in 2006, Carlo successfully united spirituality and modernity, using digital media as a tool for evangelization.

Canonization of Pier Giorgio Frassati

Joint issue with Italy, the Republic of San Marino, and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. Pier Giorgio Frassati will also be canonized on 7 September 2025. A young man from Turin, a Dominican tertiary and a charismatic figure for younger generations, he was deeply devoted to the Eucharist and dedicated to helping the poor. Through prayer and social engagement, Frassati embodied an accessible ideal of holiness, rooted in daily life.

Decade on Ecosystem Restoration – Year IV

This issue continues the philatelic series dedicated to the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. The stamp focuses on glacier preservation, declared the theme of the International Year by the UN. It is a call to safeguard our “common home,” in continuity with the teaching of Laudato si’ by the late Pope Francis.

550th Anniversary of the Birth of Michelangelo

As part of the Jubilee Year 2025, the Vatican Post celebrates the 550th anniversary of Michelangelo Buonarroti’s birth with a prestigious miniature sheet. His works in Vatican City—from the Sistine Chapel ceiling to the Last Judgment and the dome of St. Peter’s—his genius bears witness to the indelible link between art and faith.

Witnesses of Hope: Saint Charles de Foucauld

In the context of the Jubilee Year of Hope, a stamp is issued in honor of Charles de Foucauld, a remarkable figure of fraternity, prayer, and interreligious dialogue. As a missionary among the Tuareg people of the Sahara, he was a “universal brother” and a bridge between cultures.

600th Anniversary of the Founding of the University of Leuven

This commemorative stamp pays tribute to the historic University of Leuven, founded in 1425 by a bull decreed by Pope Martin V and for centuries a symbol of unity between faith and knowledge. The Sedes Sapientiae, a Marian image and emblem of the university, represents the educational mission of the institution.

75th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Dogma of the Assumption

A special stamp commemorates the proclamation of the Dogma of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary by Pope Pius XII on 1 November 1950. Defined in the apostolic constitution Munificentissimus Deus, the Dogma highlights Mary’s glorification to heaven, in both body and soul, as Queen of Heaven and a model of hope.

For each issue, a special “day of issue” postmark will be available at the Vatican Philatelic Office.

Collectors are reminded that these stamps will also be available from 7 September through the online sales platform of the Philatelic and Numismatic Office (www.cfn.va).

In addition to the stamps, two commemorative folders will be released: on 7 September, for the canonization of Blessed Carlo Acutis; on 7 October, the feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, a Marian folder marking the anniversary of the Dogma of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
